Barrel Futurity Rules & Regulations

2D Futurity with Breeders Incentive

 The Grid Iron Barrel Futurity will be supervised by our Corporation Directors and their decisions are FINAL.  We reserve the right to refuse entry to any horse or individual.  No discrimination will be tolerated.

The Grid Iron Barrel Futurity will be held on September 29 - October 1, 2017 in Huron, SD, at the Beef Complex on the South Dakota State Fairgrounds.

The Futurity is open to horses that are five years old or younger.  Horses must be checked in prior to running.  It will be paid out in a 2D format with the split being 1 second.

To be eligible for the Futurity, the horse must NEVER have compete in ANY barrel race, including AQHA shows, play days, novice horse events, derbies, rodeos, etc. prior to December 1, 2016.  To do so means forfeit of any & all fees paid & elimination from the futurity.  However, horses may have competed anywhere after December 1, 2016.  Horses may have been entered in other events.

Owners may enter more than one horse.  The owner does not have to ride his/her horse.  Either male or female rider is allowed.  There will be no age limit on the rider.  All riders must be designated on or before September 15, 2017.  Should a nominated horse be sold during the course of the payment period, written authorization must be received from the original owner before the horse can continue being paid on.  If no authorization is received, horse will be required to renominate from the beginning. 

There will be two go-rounds at the Grid Iron Barrel Futurity.  Total times of the two go’s will determine the Championship Standing and Winner of the 1st place award.

Substitutions are allowed only due to illness, injury, or death of the nominated horse.  A veterinarian’s affidavit of proof MUST accompany substitutions along with a $25 fee.  This means that by-outs are allowed, though the transacation of fees must occur between the two parties & not the office.  Deadline for substitutions will be September 15, 2017.  The necessary papers on the horse must accompany the fee.  Any substituted horse will be ridden by the originally nominated rider.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

Two electric eyes will be used.  Should the original electric eye fail, you will be given the choice to take the back up electric eye time, before your time is announced, or take a rerun.  Rerun will carry penalties with it.  A tipped barrel will result in a no time.

NOMINATION FEES:
$100 to nominate July 1-5.  Any nomination fee postmarked July 6 or later will be considered late. Any sustaining payment postmarked after the 1st will be assessed at $10 fine.  NO EXCEPTIONS!!

$100 to Sustain August 1st, 2017

$55 to Sustain September, 1st, 2017
$100 Breeders Incentive September 1st, 2017
$250 TOTAL NOMINATION FEES ($350 if in Breeder’s Incentive).

Late nominations/sustaining payments must be paid by September 1st, 2017.  LATE NOMINATIONS/PAYMENTS ARE $10 PER late payment.

(NO NOMINATIONS ACCEPTED AFTER September 1st, 2017)

NO REFUNDS IN ANY CASE.  PAYMENT MUST ACCOMPANY THE NOMINATION.

A photocopy of the front & back of the registration papers of the horse must accompany all nominations; if not included, will be figured as late payment until received.

CURRENT HEALTH PAPERS AND COGGINS REQUIRED ON ALL HORSES.  HEALTH PAPERS MUST HAVE DISIGNATED ON THE DESTINATION: GRID IRON BARREL FUTURITY- HURON, SD.  This step is to protect you from costly fines by the State of South Dakota.

25% of the total entry fee will be used to cover costs such as added money, awards, administration charge  and paying of help.  The balance, or 75% of the fees, will go toward the purse as will that portion for all horses paid in full whether they run or not.  In the Breeder's Incentive Sidepot, 10% of fees will be held out with the remaining going towards the purse.   All Late Fees are Retained by Committee.

All checks for entry will be made payable to “Lucky Penny Productions ”.  Any insufficient fund checks received will automatically require that you pay with a cashier checks or money orders for the balance of the payment schedule.  Those payments made with NSF checks will be assessed a $20 fee in addition to any late fees. 

Upon receipt of your entry, an invoice will be mailed to the e-mail address provided.  Please check your e-mail and review the invoice to make sure all entries are correct.

The Open Maturity is open to all horses and are eligible for the Breeder's Incentive Side-pot if their sire is a current Gridiron Stallion.  Entries must be an offspring of one of the paid to date stallions for 2017 or a nominated stallion to qualify for the Breeder's Incentive.

Entry fees will be $125, 25% of which is withheld to pay for added money, prizes, and to pay staff.  The money jackpotted back will be the Added purse plus 75% of the fees from all the horses that are 100% paid up, whether they run or not. All late fees & drop out fees are retained by the committee.

Payments on Maturity:
Full Open Maturity Fee of $135 due August 1st, 2017
Breeder's Incentive Entry of $100 due September 1st, 2017
Any sustaining payment postmarked after the 1st will be assessed a $10 fine. 
There will be NO Exceptions.

2D Open Pole Bending Futurity Rules

$250 added

The Futurity is open to horses that are five years old or younger. To be eligible for the Futurity, the horse must NEVER have competed in ANY pole bending, including AQHA shows, playdays, novice horse events, derbies, rodeos, etc. prior to December 1, 2016. To do so means forfeit of any and all fees paid and elimination from the futurity.However, horses may have competed anywhere after December 1, 2016.

There will be one go-round. 

A tipped pole will result in a no time.

Futurity Rules and Regulations will apply to the Pole Bending where Committee deem necessary.

Payments on Pole Bending Futurity:
Full Pole Bending EntryFee of $60 due August 1st, 2017

Any sustaining payment postmarked after the 1st will be assessed a $10 fine. 
There will be NO Exceptions.

Sampson Family Ranch 4D

$250 Added on Friday, $350 Added on Saturday

Places will be paid in 4D format with 1/2, 1/2 whole second splits.

Pre-entries for the Sampson Family Ranch are due on September 15th, 2017.  Late entries will be taken until 5:00 pm each day of the race with a $10/horse late charge.

Youth will run as a sidepot for $20.  Youth may enter the Open AND the Youth OR the Youth Side pot Only.  They will run with the Open runners.

On Saturday, Futurity & Maturity riders may carry their time over to the Open.

Dress code - long sleeved shirt (does not need to be a button up), hat and boots - will be enforced.
